"I will be refusing the gold-plated pension offered by the Judge's Retirement System. With many judges receiving public pensions exceeding their old salaries I cannot, in good conscience, accept large sums from a fund which is severely under-funded (less than 34% as of this writing.) I will accept NO JUDICIAL PENSION should I have the honor of serving as your Circuit Court Judge."
Forty percent of ex-judges receive pensions that are higher than their old salaries. (Daily Herald, December, 2015) Many make over $150,000 every year in retirement, and get a 3% annual inflation kicker!
BY REFUSING THE JUDGES' PENSION, Demetri will be giving back to the taxpayers approximately $117,000 per year upon his retirement.
